Abstract/Resumen
From Ethnohistory and Oral History to the Social Memory in Nunavut
In this new century, where is ethnohistorical research headed for in Nunavut? One promising path, according to some anthropologists, should be the combination of archival and archeological data with the abundant ethnography collected in this cultural area over the last decades, an approach which fits well into a dominating paradigm of ethnohistorical research in North America. It is also important, in our viewpoint, to take other approaches into account in this domain, among which « oral history ». Our goal aims at doing a survey of the main dynamics and characteric productions related to this approach in Nunavut. It is a growing internal and external trend which makes research progress less towards ethnohistory than the study of Inuit social memory.

Résumé
Vers où s’orientent, en ce début de nouveau siècle, les recherches ethnohistoriques au Nunavut? Une voie d’avenir, selon certains anthropologues, devrait être la combinaison des données d’archives et archéologiques avec l’abondante ethnographie recueillie dans cette aire culturelle depuis des décennies, une approche qui correspond bien à un paradigme de la recherche ethnohistorique en Amérique du Nord. Il importe aussi selon nous de prendre en compte d’autres approches dans ce domaine, dont l’histoire orale. Notre propos consiste à faire un survol des dynamiques principales et des productions marquantes caractéristiques de cette approche au Nunavut. Il y a là un courant à la fois interne et externe en croissance qui est appelé à faire évoluer les recherches moins vers l’ethnohistoire que l’étude de la mémoire sociale des Inuits.
