"Psychiatry is Like a Village"
Therapeutic Koteba at the Psychiatric Hospital of Bamako (Mali)
Setting up therapeutic theatre sessions at the Point G psychiatric hospital of Bamako (Mali) brings up psychological and ethnological questions. With this double point of view, we analyse the use of traditional theatre (koteba) in a hospital context. By describing the lay out of the project and various sessions, we explain how we used the recurring reference to the village as a metaphorical area but also as a relational system. This reference can help better understand what is at stake in this kind of therapeutic theatre. The therapeutic relationship is indeed part of the group framework and may refer to relations of powers, specific to the Malian context. The reference to the village acts as an interface between care and stage drama, between ethnopsychiatry and ethnotheatre, and can help better understand the potential relational effectiveness of such a therapeutic lay out.

La koteba terapéutica en el hospital psiquiátrico de Bamako (Mali)
El establecimiento de sesiones de teatro terapéutico en el hospital psiquiátrico del Point G en Bamako (Mali), provocó la aparición de problemas muy interesantes, tanto de orden psiquiátrico como etnológico. En este artículo tratamos de analizar, a través de una óptica doble, la introducción de una forma de teatro tradicional (el koteba) en la escena hospitalaria. Con la presentación del dispositivo establecido y la ilustración de ejemplos específicos de ciertas sesiones, se muestra cómo la referencia recurrente a la aldea, en tanto que espacio metafórico y como sistema relacional, permite comprender más cabalmente lo que está en juego en esta forma de teatro terapéutico. La relación terapéutica se inscribe, en efecto, en una dimensión colectiva y puede referirse a relaciones de poder específicas del contexto de Mali. Entre atención y escenificación, entre etnopsiquiatría y etnoescenología, la referencia a la aldea permite comprender la eficacidad relacional potencial de dicho dispositivo terapéutico.

Résumé
La mise en place de séances de théâtre thérapeutique à l’hôpital psychiatrique du Point G à Bamako (Mali) soulève des problèmes tout à fait intéressants, à la fois psychologiques et ethnologiques. Il s’agit ici d’analyser, avec ce double regard, l’introduction d’une forme de théâtre traditionnel (le koteba) sur une scène hospitalière. En présentant le dispositif mis en place et en prenant pour exemples plus précis certaines séances, on montre ainsi comment la référence récurrente au village, à la fois comme espace métaphorique et comme système relationnel, permet de mieux comprendre ce qui est en jeu dans cette forme de théâtre thérapeutique. La relation thérapeutique s’inscrit en effet dans une dimension collective et est susceptible de renvoyer à des relations de pouvoirs qui sont spécifiques au contexte malien. Entre prise en charge et mise en scène, entre ethnopsychiatrie et ethnoscénologie, la référence au village permet ainsi de mieux comprendre l’efficacité relationnelle potentielle d’un tel dispositif thérapeutique.
