Abstract/Resumen
From Anthropology of Nation to Nationalism. The Debate in France, Limits and Perspectives
The author notes that studies centered on the idea of nation and nationalism have not met great success in France, in spite of the founders of sociology and anthropology, Mauss and Durkheim, whose initial intentions were strong but without effect. In the last two decades, however, the interest for social sciences was revived thanks to the many questions circulating through French society as to the symbolical efficiency of the French nation. The author would like to see the development of an anthropology of the nation as well as its ideological counterpart, nationalism. This would lead to a better understanding of the construction process of each national experience and the new compositions which can nowadays result from new regionalisms, peripheral nationalisms or from the process of European integration.

Résumé
L’auteur note que les études autour des thèmes de la nation et du nationalisme n’ont pas connu en France une grande faveur malgré les intentions initiales fortes mais non abouties des fondateurs de la sociologie et l’anthropologie, Mauss et Durkheim. C’est au cours de ces deux dernières décennies que l’intérêt des sciences sociales s’est affirmé, à la faveur des interrogations traversant la société française. L’auteur souhaite le développement d’une anthropologie de la nation et de son excroissance idéologique, le nationalisme, afin de comprendre les modalités de construction de chaque expérience nationale et les recompositions qui peuvent s’opérer aujourd’hui sous l’effet de régionalismes nouveaux, de nationalismes « périphériques », ou du processus de l’intégration européenne.
