Anthropology in Colombia
Colombian anthropology was founded nearly fifty years ago by foreign-born scholars (such as the French ethnologist Paul Rivet, then in exile). From 1960 to the present day, it has increasingly come to show many likenesses to Latin America in general : a chronic lack of financial support, political problems, but also enthusiasm for new fields of research, intense debates, and social activism on the part of those responding to the call of a society in turmoil.
Résumé
Fondée il y a près d'un demi-siècle par des chercheurs étrangers (dont l'ethnologue français Paul Rivet, alors en exil), l'anthropologie actuelle en Colombie présente des traits communs à tout le sous-continent latino-américain: un développement qui s'accélère après 1960, une pénurie chronique de moyens matériels, des difficultés politiques, mais aussi l'enthousiasme pour des champs de recherche nouveaux, des débats intenses et l'engagement de nombreux chercheurs, interpellés par une société en effervescence.
